2005

New Years Day: website online at 00.17 in a new style. Check it on a regular basis, as it is constantly evolving. From this moment on, the site is in French as well. A big "thank you" to Tom, (VIENNE-France) from FUNBIKES for checking my French spelling. At Christmas Roelof talks me into translating it in Frisian as well. So 2 more languages to keep up with.

January 6: been changing the basics on the Origami-page. I'm busy trying to find new models and restyling the Origami-pages entirely. January 8: The new-styled Origami-page is online, with some new models. I'm working very hard on the expansion. January 9: Even though it is quite windy, I decide to go for a ride. After arrival home and half-way getting out of my biker-gear, Johan drops by, if we want to go for a ride. So back into bikergear in no time at all and on the road again. 124 km today.

January 12: been busy making pictures of all the things I've made through the years and put them online. It is no longer only Origami, but also the Danish cutting-art and later the Origamic-architecture and Calligraphy. January 15: Despite that it was only 1 degree above zero, I drove to the pier. January 17: I've put a page with Origamic Architecture online in the Leisure-section. January 22: because for the next week 8 degrees of frost is expected, I go for a ride. January 28: In the passing week, I've been through a lot of old pics and I've scanned some of them into the computer. Found a few of my bike-driving-lessons, which I used for the history-page. February 6: The sun was shining so beautifully today and even though it was only 4 degrees Celsius, I went for a ride. I'm still working on a page about our lovely province, "Fryslân". But I wait for nicer weather and more greenery, to make the pics.

On February 8th, I suddenly get a surprising lot of visitors. I had already noticed the day before that a few came on my site via "Omrop Fryslân". So I asked Roelof the question of what he'd done. So he told me that he mailed them to put it on their linksite, because it is in Frisian as well. When Roelof came home this night, he asked about the amount of visitors and told me, they had discussed my site on the radio at lunchtime. On february 18 I put the idea in the Dutch forum, to make a page with "your bike", pictures keep coming in and what a beauties each and everyone of them. In the evening the first 11 are online. In the week ahead RudyHadee sends me a picture of his "Liberator" from 1942 and I fall in love with it. Everybody should see this fabulous bike, so the idea comes to mind to open a page where everybody can show their "pride". And so.....
February 20th: 1st digital b-day. February 24: Since yesterday we have snow and the roads are messy from all the brine. No bikeweather at all and when nothing changes in the next 10 days, my clock will stay just over 18.700 km for the first year. On February 25th at 11:21 in the morning I have my 5000th visitor on the site. That evening the "Friesche Motorclub" has it's annual members meeting. One of the items on the agenda every year is the Trophy for the tour-championship. I know, I've driven quite a lot of their tours and I think that I'm in the top-three. So wait and see. I ended up second.

February 26: The pages of Origami have been expanded with a page about "patchwork" March 4: this passed week, JanBMW gave me the publication-rights for a reconstruction-project, he's working on. He has stripped down a vintage BMW R 50 and will send pictures and comment to me, during the restoration of the bike. I agreed with him to put it online as he would enjoy that very much. On March 5th, at 10 pm I put he pages online about the resoration of the vintage Beemer. I let Jan announce it in the biker-forum and it results in 114 vieuwers on sunday. My weekly amount of vieuwers goes up to 515. I enjoy the temperary succes. March 12: Jan and I have plans to have the update of the restoration online by 10 pm. I let Jan do the announcement in the Dutch biker-forum again. His pleasure, my pleasure. The 6000th visitor has seen my website. March 13: Met a few guys of the Dutch Forum and hey came over for coffee at my place. Took the bike out and drove with them for a fair bit of kilometres.

March 20: a day of improved bikertraining (2nd course, meaning higher speed) on the police-training circuit at Lelystad. We had a wonderful day, but at the end of the day, we could follow the marshall and drive the circuit on high speed, following the ideal lines. I took that S-curve so nicely, for maybe the 20st time, but this time I made a mistake. The back wheel lifted and in the process, I thought: it's your turn Betty. I fell on the tarmac and remembered to make myself as wide as possible, so I would not roll too far. The bike and I landed in the verge. It only took no more that 3 seconds. The wing of the bike is damaged and the gear-pedal was bent, but after building and smoking my cigarette, I went back on and had another ride, before the end of the day. Here are some pics of the damage.

March 28: We drove the first afternoon-tour with 50 bikes alltogether. March 29: I had my 7000th visitor tonight, was too busy to notice, building another website. April 2nd. Had a nice ride today, just over 100 km. April 3: we drove the "Noorderrit" in Oudehaske today. On the bike all day, 333 kilometers. We also were the largest participating club, with 45 bikes. April 9: Got a new harddisk added of 80 GB. I only had 6 GB and I was running out of space. April 10: While Roel is away for a day-tour, I stay home all day, I feel a bit shaky.

On April 17, I meet some of the users of the Dutch biker-forum. We have a ride-out to the sea, for a fish-for-lunch and the go on riding to one of the memebers, that could not make it and had a coffee there. This afternoon, my counter passed the 20.000 km. April 24: made a sunday-run with MC Hoogeveen. All together 435 km on my counter added. A very nice route, scenery is very attractive in the province of Drente. April 26: this afternoon, my Nedstat counter is online for 1 year. This morning it says 8650 visitors on my website.

May 1st: Left for a ride on my own this morning and passed a lot of fields with tulips in bloom. They look and smell lovely. Drove over 100 miles today. May 5th: today the 3 provinces-tour. 220 km through our beautiful springtime scenery. We started with 26 bikes. The last 40 km it started to drizzle, but we did not really get soaked. May 6: Bent Bay from Denmark (www.bentbay.dk) made a beautiful Banner with my name on it. So I asked permission to use it online. Here it is, in my website and will be there, as long as you surf around. Been busy, to prepare the pages of the restauration of the BMW R 50, to be put on Jan his own server. Added a frontpage and a linkpage to it. In the next week, Jan will get it on his server and I will have a link to that website. Gives me another 11 MB webspace again. With all the pictures, it has become quite large. While Jan was not using any of his 50 MB webspace, we might activate that just as well and put his pages on it. On May 12th: a group of volunteers comes together to fold the routes, stampcards and small flag into a booklet with information. The leaders of the stamp-posts get their stamps and a flag to mark the stamp-post on monday. It's always a lot of fun, joining in. On the 13th of May, my guestbook is 1 year online. The result is 161 messages. May 14: today we drove the 11-cities-tour as a final check. 240 km. Quite windy and cool, but dry. On the 14th of May my name and website are mentioned in the Leeuwarder Courant. The Frisian newspaper, about bikers greeting each other. They've taken my contriburion in the Dutch biker-forum as an example in their article. On May 16, we man the stamppost of the city of Workum, during the 11-stedentocht. Pics are online, link is left in the navigation-bar. In the afternoon I directed, with many others, the bikers to a parking-place, in the rain for 3 hours.

On May 22, I drive a tour with the club, 250 miles in total. In the village of Borne, at a petrol-station I see an old Nimbus from 1949 with the original sidecar. I was thrilled when the man started her up and you could see the valve-springs move up and down on the 4-in-line, 750 CC engine. Click on the pics for an enlargement.

On wednesday I put the text online and on friday I put the pictures in. Next week the daughter of the house will put the website online.

May 24: the 10,000th visitor on my website in less than 13 months.

May 27, evening-tour, with nearly 30 bikes. Lots of newbies, so to the finish before dark. On May 29, it is Harley-day in Leeuwarden and I meet Herrie of the bikerforum. He wants me to sit on his bike, with him as a pillion, for a picture.

On the first of june I have my rear tyre replaced and meet "Libby" for the first time. On the second of June I leave for a long weekend in the German Sauerland, with a group of bikers. We stay in a hotel in the village of Ippinghausen. In total 1342 kilometres in 4 days.
June 12: First O'ceallaigh-run from the city of Groningen. Had a wonderful time with other bike-enthousiasts even though it was drizzling. Met "Libby" for the second time and tried her for size. June 19: today I took her for a spin and had a look in Appelscha and drove straight through to the pier. My counter got over 24.000 km. The 26th of June, I leave for Harlingen. Driving through the harbour and then following the seadike. Holwerd is on the track, so I visit the pier in the process.

On the first of July, Roel gets new tyres on his bike. The 3rd of July, I have a short ride, after the visitors have left, that came to celebrate the 19th birthday of my youngest son. July 8: Roel told me to take both bikes to the shop to be serviced, so I did. I heard, that my bike won't be finished untill wednesday. So I took out the Shadow and went for a ride on her. Felt great again. I'll use her over the weekend, as it promises to become very nice weather. July 11: four days in a row, I've been riding the Shadow. July 15: Today I picked up the Deauville after het service. July 17: Today I met JanBMW in Appelscha and we talked untill 15.00 on the terrace and went for a ride afterwards. July 24: Went for a ride with my husband. At the end we went to fuell-up. So Roelof his bike is ready to go to the most northern point in Norway in his vacation. On wednesday July 27, I call the planning-officer of the hospital and when I agree, that a colleague is performing the surgery, I'm sceduled for friday. So on friday, the 29th I have the surgery done. The spinal puncture did not work perfectly. I could feel everything going on and had more medicine added in the drip. In the late afternoon I can go home again. No biking for at least a week. It does mean, that I'd better not ride the bike for a week. On sathurday, July 30, Roel leaves early in the morning for his vacation.

On August the 8th, I've made the decision to translate the website in German as well, in fact I've already started the first page. Might take a while, before I get it online. Now that I'm recovering, I have plenty of time on my hands. Well that same evening the pages of 2005 and a few with little text, like "your bike" are online on the German pages. The first page has been checked by Burghard My German is not perfect after 35 years, I am aware of that. My wound won't heal. I have to take penicilline. August 13: today I've adjusted the page "Your bike". From every bike, there is one picture now. On the 14th of August, Roelof is back from Scandinavia. On the 18 of August we celebrate the 102nd bithday of my grandmother. On August 20 I become a mail, telling me, that my new server of 300 MB is ready for files. So I put "Your bike" on it and link everything together. This day, it seems that my wound has finally closed. It took 22 days. The 21st of August, the Forum-day is planned. Members of the Dutch bikerforum are welcome. On this day I pass the 25.000 on my counter, the day-total is 422 km. We had a wonderful day. Link to the impression.

Me and my grandmother.

The 28th of August, I only have a ride to the pier and make a detour via Leeuwarden on my way home. From the 1st until the 4th of September I have a nice long weekend with the bikerclub MCV in the nice province of Zeeland. On the 5th of September, I cut the page of "your Bike" into three sections. It takes far too long to load all the pictures, this way it is quicker. At the bottom of each page is a link to the other two pages. On the 9th of September, my husband and I have booked my ferry to Scotland. On this day I also have the 14.000th visitor on the site. On September 10, I've put some pages, like History, 2004 etc. in an archive.

On the 11th of September I only have a look on the pier. When I come home, there is a problem with the Guestbook. I take 79 messages out from the past year. The 17th I only take a look at the pier. The 19th of September my internist calls me to tell me, that my thyroid-values are still not correct and I need to adjust my medication.

October 25: I've put up a few adds on the Dutch side of the website. October 28: This afternoon, I just went to the pier. Was approached by a man. He had visited my website last night and recognised me straight away. We both forgot to bring our camera, pity! October 30: the weather is so fine, that I first drive to the pier and later I take a nice route with some nice curves in it.

November 3: "Fireblade 1996" from motorforum.nl visits me. November 6: One of the other members of the motorforum.nl, "Schaduwman", came here today, to talk things through. November 8th: Today 2 other memebers of motorforum.nl, "Kaw@ster and SP2mtr", visited me. We had a nice chat with some cups of coffee. November 14: I'm asked again to write 12 diploma's in Calligraphy for the pigeonclub. November 15: today I went to see my mechanic. My steeringrod is shaking with loose hands. It seems to be the front-tyre. It is worn and I have it replaced. The result is fabulous. November 16: my internist tells me that my thyroid gland is still not in good working order and my medication has to be adjusted again.

benny4

November 18: today I met Benny from Malaysia, near Amsterdam, on the "Zaanse Schans". Benny found my website on bikepics.com last year and ever since we mail on a regular basis. Benny also drives a Honda Shadow. 2 Weeks ago, he mailed me to tell, that he was going on vacation and visit 6 european countries in 10 days, with his wife. On november 18, he would be on the Zaanse Schans from 08.30 until 10.00. I could not let this chance go past. So this morning I scratched the ice from the car-windows at 06.00 and drove off. The tourleader, Victor, made this picture of us, with my camera. In the evening we have a nice meal with volunteers of the "Elfstedentocht".

November 25: I'm busy with the report of Roelof his trip to the Nordkapp. Correcting typingmistakes and putting pictures in. In the afternoon, I ride out for 50 km. In the southern parts there is snow and here the sun is still shining. My last chance to fuell up, before winter will come here as well. On november 27, I've put the report of the trip to the Nordkapp of my husband online on the Dutch pages. December 5th: I've started making pages for the New Year. What's done is done. December 9: Today was such a sunny day, even though it was only 3 degrees, I drove my Deauville to the pier.
