Carless.

What started as a bikeride out of necessity.
Was our passenger car sold a few weeks ago, that I always drove. Today the Hyundai minivan was collected by the next owner. In the past few weeks we had a tour around garages to familiarize ourselves with the price of cars. We ended up at the local garage, where we are a customer for about 20 years. It looked to us the most reliable adress. He would receive a good car and would give us a call, when it arrived. And that was this afternoon. You can do two things: either walk there or get dressed properly and pull the bikes from the shed. We chose the last option. It's only a short ride, but there are a few very nice curves along that road. The temptation to choose for the tarmac became very big, certainly now that the temperature is getting pleasant. After a testdrive in the car, we negotiate and we agree to buy it.

Together for a ride.
Together we choose to take the bikes for a spin. But Roel needs some fuel. What a good opportunity to go and see a bikerfriend, who owns a service-station in the city of Leeuwarden. At Quatrebras, there is a thermometre and it tells us that it is only 2 degrees. I often had the thought that the thing gave wrong values. After a week and a half of no riding it is wonderful to open the throttle on the A-road. On our way to the service-station we see 2 oncoming bikers. At this time of year the greeting is more jovial I think, than during the bike-season. So we move on to Leeuwarden, get fuelled up and have a chat. But the afternoon progresses and so does the cold.

Homeward journey.
So we have to move homeward again. In Leeuwarden we meet a motor-cop, he greets nicely. Roel decides to make a detour and I need to get home to prepare for dinner, so we split up. In the middle of the village of Hurdegaryp I meet 2 motor-cops. They even greet me more jovial. Just like bikers amongst each other. I wonder if it really is the ride on the bike that you miss so much with miserable weather or the jovial greeting of the other bikers. It really pleases me to be able to combine these two.
