Getting a breath of fresh air.

After getting aquainted with a lot of humidity lately, we finaly have some lovely weather again. Every day can be the last chance to have a nice biketour and so I leave this sundayafternoon (september 17) for a ride to the pier of Holwerd. Just getting a breath of fresh air.

The pier, the place to meet...
Roel doesn't feel like going out today and I don't need to make long rides to enjoy the bike anyway. So I go alone, I can take my time. Just by the A-roads, I don't mind really, as I have 7 roundabouts on my way. Many bikers, solo or in groups are oncoming and they all great me. That makes the ride even more pleasant. On arrival on the pier, I am spoken to by an elderly couple, in such an Alto, I see them there more often. During our conversation a biker passes by in order to drive all the way to the end of the pier. His silhouette brings back memories. Is it...?

Is it him or not...
When a group of canoeists arrives from the Waddensea, the older couple walks away from me. The biker has taken his helmet off. When he turns around there is a recognision by both of us. We start a conversation. Last year we met on the pier and because there was a topic in the bikerforum going on about a Kawasaki ZX9R, I was interested in his bike, as he had one. We got talking and while I was holding my camera in my hand, he asked me to take some pictures of his bike, as he wanted to sell it and had no camera himself. So I made a few pics and sent them to him that evening by mail and put a picture online on the page "your bike" on my website. Later he also wrote in motorforum.nl under the name of "Kwaakie".

Another bike and not being able to drive...
On motorforum.nl he had told us he had bought a Kawasaki ZX12R in Germany, but today he drove another bike. So I asked him about it. It seemed that the bike he had bought had been stolen. After a lot of hasseling he had gotten it back now. Because the bike had been stolen in the Netherlands, he now waited for the original registration. Sometimes you wonder what has happened to the "topic-starters" and then a meetingplace like this is a pleasant place. He had also mentioned in the forum that a Stylo had pulled him over on the road between Holwerd and Ternaard. He told: I lost my drivers license for a week and had to pay a huge fine. I'm informed again.

More bikes are coming...
While we are still talking, a few Harleys are approaching. When they stop, I see that one of them has a gear-lever by the side of his fueltank. A Liberator! all in white. What a beauty. I need to make some pictures of that one. By now they are on my webiste on the page with "vintage bikes", what a treasure. Then we talk with the four of us for a while. The seamist is coming up and it is cooling down immensely, time to start the homeward yourney. I drive home with a good feeling again.
