Kill two birds with one stone.

In the forum I had read about the Triumph Thruxton, that had been overhauled by the Conimexman. It was now on show in the bikeshop of Annie. I had received serveral pictures of the bike, but before a buyer would take it away, I wanted to see it with my very own eyes close by and so on wednesdaymorning I take the Deauville out of the garage and drive all the way up to Coevorden.

What a change...
Here up north the sun is shining. A wonderful day to ride the bike. The sun is low and so I put my sunblocker down. Near Appelscha I have to put my sunblocker up, because I can't see any further than 100 metres. There is quite some mist here. If this continues, then I will turn back. These are no pleasant circumstances to ride a bike. But soon it becomes a bit better and I can see at least 5 Hectometre-posts. (they stand along the road at every 50 metres) So I stick to my plan. I drive up to the A28 into the direction of Hoogeveen, so I can move on quicker. Near Hoogeveen I choose the A37 and then via the N34 I arrive in Coevorden. I still know where to find Annie her shop.

The surprise...
When I arrive, I park my bike in front of the shop and walk in. Annie walks out of her office, because she had heard a bike coming. Laughing she embraces me in order to greet me. Well, she didn't know I was coming. I didn't want to make any promises, as it is autumn after all. You never know what the weather will be like. I'm not going to get me a wet suit. Then the Conimexman walks out of the office as well. We haven't seen each other for a while and there is a warm welcome. And then there is coffee.

The goal of my trip...
Of course the topic is the famous Thruxton, or should I use the word "notorious". The Conimexman wants to put the bike outside for a while and I take my chance and follow him with my camera. (see picture) I really think this is a fabulous bike, but not suitable for me. All those polished parts, that need to be polished every now and then. That is not my strongest point. I want to ride a bike and when there is a shower, so be it. I'll be happy to move on. But with this bike that would mean that I need to polish for at least an hour.

Time for the homeward journey...
There is a time to come and a time to go. I have plans to drive by Rudy on my way back. It is not much of a detour, really. So near Hoogeveen I take the A28 all the way to Assen-Noord. The collegues get to know me as well. One is teasing me, the other greets me. I have a "cup-a-coffee" and together with Rudy I smoke a fag. Rudy tells me about his last adventure. Las sunday he was at the café-racer-meeting in Amsterdam. He's quite busy and so we say goodbye and I move on to get home. A few Kilometres before Burgum I get stuck in a traffic-jam. When passed the bridge I know another way to get home and I do use that. It is indeed time for the Centrale As.
