Motorbike-concert/ballet...

Well a while ago, Jacob told us at the clubhouse, that there would be a motorbike-concert and ballet given in Drachten and 3 bikerclubs were asked to each come up with 12 bikes and drivers...

Thursday....
The biker-clubs of Drachten, Surhuisterveen and Veenwouden had followed the request and on thursdayevening there would be a training on the airstrip in Drachten. So we gathered at the clubhouse at 6.30 pm in order to drive to the airstrip in Drachten together. We were welcomed with coffee and rolls. We got aquainted with the conductor from Lithuania, Donatus Katkus, who told us in poor German what he wanted from us. With that knowledge we mounted our bikes and started practicing. One of the members of our club was standing emptyhanded by the side, so I gave him my camera. Thanks Foppe, now I have at least some pictures for an impression. The bikes were classified by sound. Driving in formation was practiced. That is not as easy as it looks. The conductor would love to see us close together with only half a metre in between and no holes in the circle. Well I think we could use some more time for practicing.

Friday...
Because of the Simmerdeis Summerfestival in Drachten, all sorts of cultural activities were invited to the community of Smallingerland. That means that on fridaynight we give a motorbike-concert in 3 villages. The conductor has a classic concert in the Lawei in Drachten to conduct, so we end up with another conductor. We start in Drachtster Compagnie. There I am spoken to by Spider from MC de Swalkers. I remember him from the Shadow-biker-club, but nowadays he rides his big dream, a Harley. After that we give a second concert in Opeinde (Sm) and a third one in Oudega (Sm). Something else than the local Brassband.

Saturday...
The day of the "grande finale". At 9 we gather again at the clubhouse and together we drive to the community-centre in Drachten, where we wait. Luckily it is dry. The conductor arrives to tell us the procedure of what he has in mind. But once we are in queue, the clouds get darker and we see it coming. Eventually it starts raining. Despite the rain, everybody remains on its seat, so they must be real bike-lovers. In the rain we drive our figures on the square. Then we line up in front of the conductor and he points to the group of bikes that has to make the sound. In that way there is a complete conversation with bikes. One of the participants belongs to a stunt-team and he performs his things with wheelies and stoppies with and without passengers.

Second act...
In time with the conductor we sound the horns of our bikes. Despite we practiced only briefly, we sound quite synchronous. I am really surprised how good it sounds. At the end of our performance there is a full burnout where they stick a torch to. Very spectacular and of course a burst tyre. To make a long story short, it was a success. Unfortionatly I could not make pictures this time during the show and I really pity that. Besides that the weather conditions and the poor lights would not have given me pictures of a good quality anyway. But the clubfunds have grown and in a short while we will have a party.
